« Who, who, who… » est une installation vidéo holographique réalisée à partir d’un ventilateur LED. Jo Joowon y projette, dans l’air même, les images résiduelles d’une performance où il souffle sans relâche vers l’hélice en rotation. Le souffle, élément vital mais vite dissipé, devient métaphore d’une existence contemporaine marquée par la répétition, l’aliénation au travail et la sensation de vacuité.
En tournant à grande vitesse, le ventilateur transforme un mince ruban de LED en surface d’apparition immatérielle : l’image y est plus volatile qu’un pixel sur écran, presque sans poids, fidèle au sentiment d’inconsistance que l’artiste associe à la condition humaine actuelle. Le titre — « Who, who, who… » — joue sur l’onomatopée du souffle (« houuu ») tout en formulant la question « Qui ? », comme si, dans le vacarme numérique, la quête d’identité se réduisait à un écho indéfini.
La rotation de l’hélice génère un halo lumineux et un léger vrombissement qui enveloppent le spectateur, intégrant l’espace sonore et la vibration de l’air à l’expérience visuelle. L’œuvre brouille ainsi les frontières entre corps et image, présence et trace ; le visage soufflant, fragile et scintillant, semble à la fois tangible et prêt à se dissoudre.
En confrontant le public à ce fantôme lumineux — modèle d’une figure humaine usée par des gestes automatiques — l’installation pose une question insistante : « Qui respire encore derrière les routines mécaniques de la vie moderne ? » À chaque tour d’hélice, le souffle recommence, et l’interrogation persiste, suspendue dans la lumière.

“Who, who, who…” is a holographic video installation built around an LED-fan display. Jo Joowon projects into open air the after-images of a performance in which he repeatedly blows toward the spinning blades. Breath—a fundamental yet instantly dissipating act—becomes a metaphor for contemporary life, marked by routine, labour-driven alienation and an ever-present sense of emptiness.
The high-speed fan turns a narrow strip of LEDs into an immaterial plane of light: the image appears lighter and more fleeting than any screen-bound pixel, perfectly suited to express the artist’s feeling of the human figure as something insubstantial and transient. The title, “Who, who, who…,” is both the onomatopoeic sound of exhalation (“hoo-oo-oo”) and an unanswered question—Who?—echoing through the digital din.
As the blades spin, they generate a luminous halo and a faint mechanical hum that envelop the viewer, folding sound and air movement into the visual field. The work blurs the borders between body and image, presence and trace; the blowing face, shimmering and fragile, seems simultaneously tangible and on the verge of dissolution.
By confronting the audience with this ghost of light—an emblem of a human figure worn down by automatic gestures—the installation asks a persistent question: Who is still breathing behind the mechanical routines of modern life? With every revolution of the fan the breath begins anew, and the question lingers, suspended in light.
